Semantic Web Marketing - SEO Tips

Semantic Web, Semantic Marketing, Effective Web Marketing – SEO Tips

The Semantic Web is an evolving extension of the World Wide Web in which the semantics of information and services on the web is defined, making it possible for the web to understand and satisfy the requests of people and machines to use the web content.

The semantic web is a vision of information that is understandable by computers, so that they can perform more of the tedious work involved in finding, sharing and combining information on the web.

One promise of the Semantic Web is increasing the relevance of websites without visitor effort - visitors will get more of what they want and less of what they don't when they arrive at a website. Ultimately, the entire Web is going to get more relevant for each of us. Semantic Marketing enables your website to deliver more meaningful interactions with the majority of visitors. When you increase the relevance of your website, more visitors will stay longer and go deeper into your content. This results in more visitors becoming prospects, and ultimately, more customers.

Semantic marketing is very effective way of web marketing. Semantic marketing makes a determination about each visitor upon arrival and displays relevant content, simplified navigation and/ or supportive imagery. Today, we use pre-session, detectable attributes in the absence of a unified system for ontological matching.

Here are 7 possible missions for "semantic marketing":

  1. Marketing becomes the champion of generating the underlying data.
  2. Marketing views categorization, metadata, RDF graphs, relevant microformats, etc., as a new kind of market positioning and placement -- "semantic branding", if you will.
  3. Marketing takes a much broader view of distribution and promotion of its semantic web data in search engines and vertical networks (SEO++), including the sponsorship or creation of new niche semantic networks.
  4. Marketing comes up with new ways to incentivize the conversion of semantic web interactions in real business objectives.
  5. Marketing will have a real challenge with tracking and attributing distributed data in the semantic web to measure its impact -- from multi-touch marketing to micro-touch marketing. Hard problem but entrepreneurial ingenuity will prevail.
  6. Marketing will want to leverage other people's data in their own value-add mash-ups (interesting "joint venture" semantic data partnerships), as well as for internal-only apps focused on market research and competitive intelligence.
  7. Marketing will need to be concerned with brand protection in the semantic web: quality control to watch for bad data, conflicting data, competitive misuse, etc.

What is eCommerce - SEO Tips

Electronic commerce, commonly known as e-commerce or eCommerce, consists of the buying and selling of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks. The amount of trade conducted electronically has grown extraordinarily since the spread of the Internet. Online retailers are sometimes known as e-tailers and online retail is sometimes known as e-tail. Almost all big retailers have electronic commerce presence on the World Wide Web.

  • E-commerce can be divided into:
  • E-tailing or "virtual storefronts" on Web sites with online catalogs, sometimes gathered into a "virtual mall"
  • The gathering and use of demographic data through Web contacts
  • Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), the business-to-business exchange of data
  • e-mail and fax and their use as media for reaching prospects and established customers (for example, with newsletters)
  • Business-to-business buying and selling
  • The security of business transactions

E-tailing or The Virtual Storefront and the Virtual Mall
As a place for direct retail shopping, with its 24-hour availability, a global reach, the ability to interact and provide custom information and ordering, and multimedia prospects, the Web is rapidly becoming a multibillion dollar source of revenue for the world's businesses. A number of businesses already report considerable success. As early as the middle of 1997, Dell Computers reported orders of a million dollars a day. By early 1999, projected e-commerce revenues for business were in the billions of dollars and the stocks of companies deemed most adept at e-commerce were skyrocketing. Although many so-called dotcom retailers disappeared in the economic shakeout of 2000, Web retailing at sites such as Amazon.com, CDNow.com, and CompudataOnline.com continues to grow.

Market Research
In early 1999, it was widely recognized that because of the interactive nature of the Internet, companies could gather data about prospects and customers in unprecedented amounts -through site registration, questionnaires, and as part of taking orders. The issue of whether data was being collected with the knowledge and permission of market subjects had been raised. (Microsoft referred to its policy of data collection as "profiling" and a proposed standard has been developed that allows Internet users to decide who can have what personal information.)

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
EDI is the exchange of business data using an understood data format. It predates today's Internet. EDI involves data exchange among parties that know each other well and make arrangements for one-to-one (or point-to-point) connection, usually dial-up. EDI is expected to be replaced by one or more standard XML formats, such as ebXML.

E-Mail, Fax, and Internet Telephony
E-commerce is also conducted through the more limited electronic forms of communication called e-mail, facsimile or fax, and the emerging use of telephone calls over the Internet. Most of this is business-to-business, with some companies attempting to use e-mail and fax for unsolicited ads (usually viewed as online junk mail or spam) to consumers and other business prospects. An increasing number of business Web sites offer e-mail newsletters for subscribers. A new trend is opt-in e-mail in which Web users voluntarily sign up to receive e-mail, usually sponsored or containing ads, about product categories or other subjects they are interested in.

Business-to-Business Buying and Selling
Thousands of companies that sell products to other companies have discovered that the Web provides not only a 24-hour-a-day showcase for their products but a quick way to reach the right people in a company for more information.

The Security of Business Transactions
Security includes authenticating business transactors, controlling access to resources such as Web pages for registered or selected users, encrypting communications, and, in general, ensuring the privacy and effectiveness of transactions. Among the most widely-used security technologies is the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), which is built into both of the leading Web browsers.

Difference between SEO and SEM

Confused between search engine optimization and search engine marketing? Is there any difference between both these terms/techniques? I was also very confused about these terms. After some study on Internet, I come to know about the difference between SEO and SEM. Below you will get my views (after analyzing various forums and articles) about search engine optimization and search engine marketing. I wrote this article to clarify the difference between Search engine optimization and Search engine Marketing. I hope this article will clear all your questions regarding difference between SEO and SEM.

Search Engine Marketing
Search Engine Optimization is a form of Internet Marketing which includes paid listing PPC (pay per click) and natural search engine optimization (SEO), Text Ads, Banner Ads and Press Release etc.
SEM is the process of using search engines as an advertising tool.

More about SEM
SEM or Search engine marketing includes all the works required for increasing the visibility of a website and getting leads either by ethical search engine optimization or paid inclusion in PPC or banner advertisement.

Google Adword, Yahoo Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter are top search engine marketing vendors. They provide text advertisements, which appear at the right side or on the top of result pages. There are some other ad networks which provide banner advertising or ad placement advertising on relevant sites such as Komli's advertising network, kontera ads, ad revenue etc.

There are various type of payment modes in online advertising such as PPC, CPM, CPL, CPA. PPC stands for Pay Per Click means advertiser has to pay every time someone click on his ad. CPM stands for Cost Per thousand Impressions, in this mode advertiser pays according to the views/impressions of his ad. And another is CPL, means Cost Per Lead, in this system advertisers pay for getting leads. CPA stands for Cost per Acquisition or Cost Per Sale means an average dollar amount to the overall in clicks it takes to convert to a sale. Some agencies also allow the ad placement at a flat monthly fee.

Paid advertising is very effective form of marketing means you have complete control over the budget, keywords and the websites you wish to target. Apart from that SEO (search engine optimization) is also a part of SEM which takes time but work for a long time.

Page Naming Tips – SEO Tips

Name of the web pages are taken into consideration by search engine while calculating the keyword density and listing your webpage in the SERP. So you have to pay special attention to page naming because it is meaningless to make pages with names such as page1.html, page2.html etc.

One can incorporate the targeted keyphrase in the name of the title because it will help in improving the search engine ranking as well as it also helps the person who is doing editing in the site. Apart from that it can attract visitors when your webpage is listed in the search engine result pages.

The name of the webpage should be same as your keyphrase. You can use hyphen (-) instead of space and underscore (_) to separate the words. For example if your page is about search engine optimization the name of the page would be search-engine-optimization.html. All search engine treats hyphen (-) as keyword separator while some search engine do not consider underscore (_) as keyword separator. So it is wise to use hyphen in the name of the webpage. One More thing you need to take into consideration while naming any page is not to use space in the name of the webpage for example example.com/search engine optimization.html because when the page is loaded in the browser the space will converts into %20 sign. So Ideally, best way is to use hyphen to separate to keywords in the name of the webpage.

The Extension of webpage depends on the scripting language used. Normally htm or html is used in simple web pages. But if one has used any scripting language the extension may be changed as php, asp or aspx. If you have not used any scripting language its up to you either use htm or html. Most commonly used extension for web pages are php, asp, aspx, jsp, htm, html etc.
